These terms apply to Captain's free beta, operated by Diana McDermott, trading as Captain.
Captain is operated by Diana McDermott, an individual based in the United Kingdom, trading as Captain. Captain is not currently an incorporated company. In these terms, “we”, “us” and “our” mean Diana McDermott.
These terms are between you and Diana McDermott. Contact us at diana@captainwrites.com with questions about the beta or these terms.
Captain is currently a beta service for testing and feedback. Access to the current beta is free. Features, usage limits and availability may change as the service develops, and the beta may be paused or ended. Keep your own copies of important work.
Taking part in the free beta does not commit you to a paid plan. We will explain any future charges and obtain your agreement before enrolling you in a paid service.
Use Captain only through your own registered or invited account. Keep your sign-in and connected-account access secure, and do not attempt to access another journalist's workspace or destination.
You remain responsible for the briefs, source material, drafts and destination accounts you connect, and for having permission to use and publish that material. Connect only Buffer, Google, Instagram or WordPress accounts that you are authorised to operate.
Captain is an editorial aid, not a substitute for review. Check facts, quotations, rights, platform rules and the final destination before approval. Captain sends a post only after an authorised user approves the exact saved version and destination.
Buffer, LinkedIn, X, Google, Instagram, WordPress and other outside services control their own availability, eligibility, limits and policies. Captain cannot guarantee that an outside service will accept or retain a delivery. If confirmation is uncertain, check the destination before trying again to avoid a duplicate post.
Do not use Captain to break the law, infringe rights, evade platform controls, distribute malware or send deceptive or unauthorised material. Access may be suspended to protect the workspace, its users or connected services.
If a registered company is formed to operate Captain, we will explain the proposed change and provide its legal name, registration details, contact details and updated terms before it becomes your service provider. We will seek any agreement required to transfer your contract to that company and update the Privacy policy to explain any change in who is responsible for your personal information.
Forming a company does not, by itself, transfer these terms or remove obligations and rights that arose before the change.
We may update these terms as the beta evolves. The latest revision date appears above. We will explain changes to charges or the legal operator before they take effect and ask for your agreement where required. Send questions to Diana McDermott at diana@captainwrites.com.
